The Next James Bond: Who’s In?

The search for a new 007 has officially entered its most intense—and most secretive—phase. Since Daniel Craig’s departure and the seismic shift in creative control behind the scenes, the question of who will pick up the Walther PPK is the biggest mystery in Hollywood.

Here is the current state of play for Bond 26 as of April 2026.

The Leading Contenders

While Amazon MGM is keeping their cards close to their chest, a few names have consistently risen to the top of the “shaken, not stirred” shortlist:

  • Callum Turner: As of early 2026, the Masters of the Air star has emerged as the bookies’ frontrunner. At 36, he fits the classic Bond mold: British, physically capable, and possesses that necessary blend of charm and grit.
  • Aaron Taylor-Johnson: Long considered the “job is his if he wants it” candidate, rumors of a 2022 screen test continue to haunt his candidacy. His recent clean-shaven look at the Fuze premiere has sparked even more chatter that he’s leaning into a “young Bond” aesthetic.+1
  • Jacob Elordi: The Saltburn and Euphoria star represents the “younger Bond” strategy. At 28, he would be the youngest and tallest Bond in history, though his Australian roots might stir debate among purists who insist on a British lead.+1
  • The “Fresh Face” Theory: There is growing speculation that director Denis Villeneuve is looking for a relative unknown. Names like Louis Partridge or David Jonsson (Alien: Romulus) are being whispered as the kind of rising talent that could define the role for the next decade.

When Will We Know?

Don’t expect a press conference tomorrow. During CinemaCon in Las Vegas last week (April 15, 2026), Amazon MGM’s head of film, Courtenay Valenti, urged patience, stating they are “taking the time to do this with care and deep respect.”

With Villeneuve currently finishing Dune: Part Three, production on Bond 26 isn’t expected to begin until late 2026, targeting a 2028 release date.

The Verdict: If you’re placing bets, Callum Turner and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are the safest traditional picks. However, with Villeneuve’s track record for bold choices, don’t be surprised if the next James Bond is someone you haven’t even considered yet.
